2nd COUGAR FIELD WORKSHOP GREAT SUCCESS

The 2nd Cougar Field Workshop held at the spectacular Ladder Ranch in New Mexico from February 18-22 was a great success. Cougar Network co-founder Ken Miller attended as an observer and has written an article about the adventure to appear in the next issue of Wild Cat News.

The highlight of the week was the capture and collaring of a female cougar on the first full day of the workshop. Dr. Travis Perry of Furman U. in SC is doing cougar research at Armendaris Ranch on predation of desert bighorn sheep by mountain lions. He wanted to collar a female at Ladder Ranch and was successful! Dr. Perry has a blog tracking both the male at Armendaris and the female at Ladder. Note he calls them "Furman" cougars.

Dr. Perry also gave a Powerpoint presentation at the workshop that was very interesting. It can be accessed here. Rick Winslow from NM Game and Fish also presented about the history of cougar regulation and their current status in New Mexico  -- it is here.

We are hoping to get all the presentations so we can add their links here so check back to see if they are available.
